Iran has refrained from sending its new ambassador to Sweden in protest over the burning of the Holy Quran outside a mosque in the Swedish capital Stockholm.

According to the British news agency Reuters News, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian has said on Sunday that the process of sending a new Iranian ambassador to Sweden has been stopped.

It should be noted that on the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday, a person desecrated the Holy Quran outside the main mosque in Stockholm on Wednesday.

Swedish police have charged a man who desecrated the Koran with protesting against an ethnic or national group.The man described himself as an Iraqi refugee in a newspaper interview.

Earlier, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Sweden’s Minister of Affairs on Thursday, the day after the incident, and condemned it for insulting the holy book in Stockholm.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdullahyan has said on Twitter on Sunday that although the administrative procedure for the appointment of a new ambassador to Sweden has been completed, the Swedish government has issued a permit for the desecration of the Holy Quran. The sending process has been stopped.

The Iranian foreign minister did not specify how long Iran would refrain from sending its ambassador to Sweden.

In addition, Swedish police have rejected several recent requests for anti-Quran protests, and courts have overturned these decisions, saying the protesters violate freedom of expression.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Sweden said in a statement that the protest of this refugee was legal but not right. The police had the power to allow or not to allow this protest.

It should be noted that even in January this year, a right-wing extremist dared to burn the Holy Quran near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, after which the entire Muslim world protested.
