Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jassim Al-Dawi has said that ‘GCC countries are making efforts to deal with illegal drugs’.
The GCC Secretary General was speaking on the occasion of the United Nations World Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed on June 26 every year.
He said that ‘war against narcotics requires joint efforts at government and civil agencies and personnel level with effective international cooperation’.
Jassim al-Dawi said that the GCC countries are determined to strengthen coordination to stop the movement of traffickers, to establish a mechanism to limit the supply and demand of drugs.
The GCC Secretary General said that the Gulf Cooperation Council sought to help drug addicts rehabilitate and reintegrate into society.
He added that ‘the establishment of the GCC Criminal Information Center for the War on Drugs in 2008 is an example of joint efforts to combat drug trafficking’.
