Ziad Elhani, a 59-year-old prominent journalist in Tunisia, was released on Thursday after being arrested for criticizing the country’s law.
According to the AFP news agency, after leaving the court, the journalist’s lawyer said that his client was detained on Tuesday evening for questioning about alleged ‘crimes by telecommunications’.

The questioning came after journalist Al-Hani mocked an article on the law criticizing current Tunisian leader Qais Said during his morning radio broadcast.
On coming out of the court on Thursday morning, Ziad Alhani said that the Deputy Public Prosecutor has decided to release him and said that the investigation against him will continue.
Ziyad Alhani told the journalists present on the occasion that if they think that they can silence me, then they are wrong.

Earlier, SNJT, the Union of Journalists in Tunisia, called the arrest of Ziad Alhani a clear violation of the law.
It should be noted that in May, journalists protested against the Tunisian government’s ‘repressive’ policy, which it said used the courts to intimidate and subjugate the media.
According to the Union of Journalists, about 20 journalists in Tunisia are facing cases against them for carrying out their journalistic duties.
