The tiger shark that killed a 23-year-old Russian citizen in Hurghada, Egypt, was beaten to death with sticks by locals going to the beach.

According to NDTV, a 23-year-old Russian citizen named Vladimir Popov was attacked by a shark while swimming in a resort on the Red Sea in Egypt, in the city of Al-Hurdaqah on Thursday.

A video of the dead Russian national has gone viral on the Internet, in which he can be seen thrashing in the water, screaming and trying to get away from the shark.

According to Sky News, eyewitnesses there say that the tiger shark played with Vladimir Popov’s body for two hours before taking him into the water.

According to a report, local people who went to the beach after the incident took out their boats in the water and caught the shark that attacked the Russian citizen with a net and brought it out of the water.

In another viral video on social networking website Twitter, a mob of local people can be seen beating the shark with sticks to avenge the death of a Russian citizen.

According to Sky News, Egypt’s Environment Ministry has confirmed that the particular shark has been captured and will now be examined to determine what prompted it to attack the Russian citizen. Researchers will look at whether it is responsible for other incidents as well.

It is not yet clear whether the shark that attacked the Russian citizen and the shark that people are killing in the video are the same or not.

Authorities, on the other hand, have closed the 74-kilometer stretch of coastline and announced that it will be closed to swimming and other water sports until Sunday.
