US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to undermine the prospects of a Palestinian state.
According to the news agency AFP, he said this in a telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister after his visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
The US Secretary of State discussed peace efforts in the region during his visit to Saudi Arabia.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in this regard that “the two leaders discussed normalizing relations with countries in the region and deepening Israel’s integration in the Middle East.”
Referring to talks in Jordan and Egypt earlier this year, the spokesman said Blanken “discussed the need to uphold commitments made at regional summits in Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh so that such measures can be avoided which could harm the prospects of a two-state solution.’
In these meetings held in Jordan and Egypt, Israeli, Palestinian and American officials sat together.
Anthony Blanken told a leading pro-American Israeli group this week that he would work to get Saudi Arabia to recognize the Jewish state.
Saudi Arabia is of great importance to Israel in the region because of its territory and its role as the custodian of Islam’s two holiest sites.

Speaking with Blankenship on Thursday, Prince Faisal bin Farhan said normalization with Israel was “in the interest of the region” and “will be of value to all.”
“But without finding a way to peace for the Palestinian people, without solving this challenge, any normalization of relations will have limited benefits,” the Saudi foreign minister said.
Faisal Bin Farhan said, “Therefore, I think we should focus on finding a path towards a two-state solution to provide dignity and justice to the Palestinians.”
Netanyahu succeeded in normalizing diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Bahrain during his last term in office, which was seen as a major achievement by both his government and the then US administration of Donald Trump.
Netanyahu, the longest-serving Israeli prime minister, has returned to power.
He leads a far-right government and his supporters are staunch opponents of a Palestinian state.
