It’s a star! Ringo Starr was born Richard Starkey on 7 July 1940. He was in a number of semi-successful London bands before taking up drums for the Beatles in 1962, when Pete Best left the band. In addition to hitting down the rhythm section, Ringo sings vocals on some of the Beatles’ most iconic tracks, including “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends”. He also wrote and sang the songs “Don’t Pass Me By” and “Octopus’s Garden”. He embarked on a solo career after the group disbanded in 1970 and has continued to tour since then.

As for his personal life, Ringo has been married twice, first to Maureen Starkey Tegrete from 1965 to 1975, and then to Barbara Bach, with whom he has been since 1981. He is the father of three children.

Here, Ringo Starr poses for a photo in New York on June 13, 2016. He was on a US tour with his All-Starr band at the time.
