Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran made history in Lahore and defeated 177 balls against England from 146 balls to score the highest individual score in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy.

His innings overturned a previous record of 165 set by England’s Ben Duckett a few days ago in the same tournament.

Zadran’s knock mixed four and six of 12 at a strike rate of 121.23 and moved Afghanistan to the dreaded 323/6 with 49.1 overs. His innings helped Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6), Sediqullah Atal (4) and Rahmat Shah (4) fall cheaply and stabilize the team after an early setback.

The right-hander has made a key 129-run partnership with skipper Hasmathura Shahidi (40) before accelerating in the final stages alongside Azmathura Omarzai (31 off 41) and Mohammad Navi (23-40*). It’s built. He eventually fell in the end and was caught by Jofra Archer from Liam Livingston.

His knocks now preceded the legendary innings of the Champions Trophy history, surpassing the likes of Nathan Asulu (145* in 2004) and Sachin Tendulkar (141 in 1998).

With a difficult total for the board, Afghanistan turns his eyes to bowlers and brings a famous victory.
