1997 movie ‘judea‘ is one such film of Indian cinema, where not only the lead characters but even the supporting characters receive great love and appreciation. No one can forget the question mark in Paresh Ravel’s mind, nor can anyone say that he does not remember Upasana Singh’s double role and the iconic “Abba dabba jabba” dialogue. We talk about the same thing in an exclusive chat with ETimes. Upasana Singh will shed light on the origins of the dialogue and its impact on his career.
“When I met the director Raj Kanwar, he told me it was a dual role. “One will be Paresh Rawal’s wife and the other will be his daughter and Johnny Lever’s love interest,” he said.
Upasana, an ardent fan of the film’s leading lady Sridevi, was excited to be a part of the project and inquired about sharing screen space with the iconic actress. “I was a big fan Sridevi Who was the leader in Judea? I asked the director if I would have any scenes with Sridevi. He said yes. So I said okay,” he explained. During this conversation, he was introduced to the TV series “Abba Dabba Jabba” and the actor was initially skeptical about it. “Then he told me about the incident. Abba Dabba Jabba liner. I absolutely did not believe that a mute person could only speak these words. “He told me to try it,” he admitted.
Despite her initial reservations, Upasana embraced the role wholeheartedly and said: “I told myself to play the character with as many expressions and vocal variations as possible. I always tried out roles. I also found it very strange that the woman sold her husband in the movie, but I didn’t say anything at that moment. I was wondering how people would digest this.

“But ‘Judaai’ was such a big hit that people started knowing me as ‘Abba Dabba Jabba’ instead of my real name. “I have done many live shows where people have requested me to say this dialogue,” concluded the actor.
Looking ahead, Upasana reveals his ventures into Punjabi cinema, both as an actor and filmmaker, sharing insights into his upcoming projects. Talking about her plans, Upasana said, “I have done two Punjabi films. I have also directed one. I am planning to go into production. Four to five of my Punjabi films are gearing up for release. Gippy Grewal’s ‘Go on Jattiye.’ “I’m not interested in TV dramas. I love reality shows. When someone offers me a role, I ask, I don’t really care about the salary, I want to know if there’s something really worth doing and I want to enjoy working.”
