Like a bomb case Filed in U.S. District Court, Kanye West and former chief of staff Milo Yiannopoulos face allegations unpaid wagesfostering a racist work environment and subjecting employees to long hours. The lawsuit also accuses West’s wife. Bianca Censoredsending obscene videos to staff members that even minors can access.
According to TMZ, The lawsuit, filed by a group of former employees, alleges that West created a hostile and racist work environment while working on an app to promote his music. The plaintiffs allege that the rapper and his crew engaged in “forced labor and cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment,” made false promises of pay and forced employees, including minors, to work excessively long hours.
The allegations stem from spring 2024, when Kanye launched the YZYVSN streaming service app to compete with platforms like Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music. West and Yiannopoulos allegedly hired an international group of developers, including Black members and minors as young as 14, to develop the app.
The lawsuit details how employees worked remotely, communicating with their teams via digital platforms. In April 2024, Yiannopoulos allegedly promised to pay the developer group $120,000 after they completed the app if they agreed to strict working conditions and refrained from filing complaints.
However, the situation quickly deteriorated. The lawsuit alleges that West ordered all employees to sign confidentiality agreements, threatening to fire minors and withhold payment if they refused. It was reported that minors working on the team were required to sign “voluntary” agreements.
Plaintiffs allege white managers who supervised minority workers used racist language. Employees were reportedly called “slaves” and “new slaves” and used abusive language based on their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin.
One incident in the lawsuit involves Yiannopoulos sending a chat message that included a black/brown emoji to an African American team member and referring to a younger employee as a “school killer.”
Employees were reportedly bullied for long and unpaid working hours, often including sleepless nights.
Meanwhile, Kanye’s wife Bianca Censori has also been accused of sending a file-sharing link containing explicit videos to a staff member, which also involved minors on the team who were not prohibited from viewing ‘hard core’ open files while developing the app.
However, Censori is not named as a defendant in the case.
The team allegedly presented one of the finished tracks to West on May 1, 2024, after rushing to complete the execution. However, the lawsuit alleges that the team was never paid, leading them to take legal action.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for unpaid wages and overtime pay, as well as emotional distress.
