Imtiaz Ali explained this Amar Singh Chamkila‘s song’Screw Tile‘ was composed by AR Rahman and İrshad Kamil by candlelight at 2:30 p.m. When the song ended, everyone in the studio burst into tears.
Imtiaz described how Rahman joined them in the studio at 2:30 in the morning as they were preparing to leave. Rahman suggested dimming the lights and lighting candles for a more pleasant atmosphere. While playing the tune, they talked about old Hindi movie songs; Guru Dutt movies. As a spectator, Imtiaz was engrossed in the music.

İrshad quickly wrote these lines in just 45 minutes. Rahman then suggested composing the song on-site. Some people in the studio became emotional while they were working. Rahman humorously said to Irshad: “What have you done, Irshad Kamil? You are making people cry.”

‘Vida Karo’ bids farewell to Chamkila characters (Diljit Dosanjh) and Amarjot (Parineeti Chopra), who faced their tragic end for their music amidst years of prejudice and judgment. The song was written by Kamil and inspired by a poem of his. Shiv Kumar BatalviIt sees Chamkila accepting her fate while confronting prejudice.

The producer also touched upon the decision to have Arijit sing the song and noted that he put forward Rahman’s name. According to him, a composer singing his own composition brings a unique depth and connection. He emphasized the importance of a singer who can convey the melody with sincerity and praised Arijit for his original and pure singing style.

Imtiaz also expressed his admiration for Arijit’s singing style, highlighting his ability to sing an entire song without relying on techniques like auto-tune or artificial intelligence. He praised Arijit for his genuine and sincere approach to singing which adds originality to the music.
