Nayanthara’s film ‘Annapoorani’ sparked controversy after its release on OTT, leading to the film being removed from the streaming platform in India. Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the film is about a young woman who aspires to become the best chef in the country and asks her to cook non-vegetarian dishes. This apparently irritated some Hindu groups, who filed an FIR against the team and called for an immediate ban on the film.

The backlash led Nayanthara to issue an apology: “This was meant to reflect the journey of life where we learn that obstacles can be overcome through sheer force of will… In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we unintentionally caused injury.”
