Rajpal Yadav spoke about his film Baby John, which failed at the box office, and how lead star Varun Dhawan reacted to it.
Varun Dhawan’s participation in the mass event was not successful as the actor wanted. His last release, Little John, was a flop and didn’t even come close to recouping its cost at the box office. While Varun remained silent about the film’s failure, his co-star Rajpal Yadav has now opened up about it, even revealing how Varun reacted to it. Rajpal Yadav on Baby John’s box office performance
In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said that Baby John was “a well-made film in every way; but it didn’t work as it was a remake of the Tamil film Theri. Rajpal said, “If it had not been a remake, it would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay did it, the audience had already seen it and since it was a remake, it affected the box office collection of the film.”
“Little John” was directed by Keilis and produced by Utley. It was a remake of Atlee’s Theri and featured Vijay in the lead role. “Baby John”, which also featured Keerthy Suresh, Vamika Gabbi and Jackie Shroff, earned less than ₹50 crores at the domestic box office despite a budget of over ₹180 crores.
When asked if Varun was “depressed” by the box office failure of Baby John, Rajpal responded in the negative. He then added, “Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He was always trying to do something new and his attempts should be appreciated because taking risks is very important.”
Rajpal Yadav in the movie “Little John”
Rajpal Yadav played Constable Ram Sevak, the deputy to Varun’s character, DCP Satya Verma, in Baby John. Although the film was panned by critics, Rajpal earned some praise, especially for a scene in which he tried acting for the first time in his career.
