Aubrey Plaza mourns her husband’s death
The grieving Plaza has not yet spoken out about her husband’s suicide. However, her representatives provided Deadline with a statement on Saturday saying “the family is devastated and requests privacy at this difficult time.”
They got married in 2021 in a private ceremony and had no children from their marriage. That same year, the White Lotus actress opened up about her marriage to the indie director in an Instagram post, congratulating him on Spin Me Round and calling him her “beloved husband.”
Baena was known for his work such as “Joshi,” “Horse Girl” and co-writing “I Heart Huckabees,” Page Six reported.

Plaza and Baena’s private wedding ceremony
Plaza later revealed during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show how she got married during the COVID-19 pandemic because she got “a little bored” one night during quarantine. In a moment of spontaneity, she told Baena, “Hey, it’s our 10th anniversary, we need to do something. Buy an ice cream cone or do something special” and “make a wedding joke” on your wedding day.
Plaza said she and her husband secretly tied the knot through 1hourmarriage.com, a website that helps couples quickly obtain a marriage license and get married in a short time. She shared, “We didn’t tell anyone we were doing this.”
The couple, who started dating in 2011 after working on several projects together, including Life After Beth (2014) and The Little Hours (2017), had a long history before taking this big step.
