Sania Mirza reflects on the challenges of being famous. She gives priority to her son Izhaan, trying to maintain a balance between work and motherhood.
Sania Mirza has a lot on her plate after being appointed Dubai Sports Ambassador. With a prolific career like hers, her journey would certainly inspire many people if it were made into a movie.
But we are yet to see any of them materialize in Mirza’s life. She says there has been interest: “There is a biopic coming up and a lot of people have been talking about it. But I haven’t had any offers recently, unless my managers told me about them!”
While work continues as Mirza also runs her tennis academy, that didn’t stop her from ringing in the New Year with her “forever date” as she captioned a photo of herself with her six-year-old child, lovingly named Izzu.
We ask her about life as a single mother. “No matter what I do in my life, my son Izhaan will always be my priority. Even among my professional obligations, it will remain so. That doesn’t mean I don’t do other things. I try to revolve my things around Izhaan as much as I can,” says the 38-year-old, who became a mother in 2018.

“I also try not to leave it on for too long, a night or two at most if I have to travel for work. Everything works out by itself. I’m trying to find a balance,” she adds. Being a busy public figure also means she is constantly in the public eye.
There must be pressure to do and say the right things in her life. Does Mirza feel it? “Being famous or not comes with its own set of challenges. Besides the pressure, I feel responsibility. I feel like so many kids look up to you, so you have a certain sense of responsibility for how you behave. I try to be myself as much as I can in the public eye. I feel humbled and proud to be in this position. I speak from the bottom of my heart,” she jokes.
