Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s daughter Ara Khan has been suffering from depression for a long time and has to be part of a family that has always been in the public eye.

Talking to the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, Ira Khan said that there is no single cause of depression, but the environment in which you grow up also affects your personality.

‘It would not be foolish to say that the family in which I grew up did not affect my state of mind. Rather, everything that happened in my life had an impact.’

‘It’s 100 per cent that the family I’m a part of has affected my mental state. To some extent it helped and to some extent it did not help.’

But leveraging her family status, Ara Khan now runs a foundation that helps people with mental health issues.

Ara Khan said that when he was diagnosed with depression, he was afraid that people would not understand.

‘I had financial resources and a support system. There were loving people, but my depression and fear still crippled me.’

Ara Khan said that her family has supported her since day one and understands her needs.

‘Although my family has been very supportive, they were finding it difficult to understand how to help me. So I had to tell them a lot. It is extremely difficult to see anyone go through pain. You start to lose focus, you try to solve their problem immediately and at the same time you wonder if what you are doing is enough.’

“So the family themselves gets into a problem because they think they can’t help what they’re going through.”
