Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap’s 2015 film ‘Bombay Velvet’ is considered one of the most flop films of Hindi cinema.
Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar and Anushka Sharma played the lead roles in this film, but the performance of this film was worst at the box office.
According to the website ‘Koi Mui’, Ranbir Kapoor was not the first choice for ‘Bombay Velvet’ but Anurag Kashyap chose Saif Ali Khan for this film.
The film was written in 2006, but Saif refused to play the role of Jonny Balraj in the film. Anurag Kashyap was not considered as a commercial director in those days.
After Saif Ali Khan rejected the film, Aamir Khan was approached to work in this film, but he also refused to work in this film.
Not only this, Hrithik Roshan was also approached to work in ‘Bombay Velvet’, but he also refused to work in it. According to reports, Hrithik kept the script of the film with him for two years.
Miss Malini wrote in 2015 that the director revealed at the time that ‘he was not a famous director at the time, which led to actors not paying attention to his scripts.
In an interview to the Press Trust of India (PTI) in 2014, Anurag Kashyap revealed that ‘When I wrote the film in 2006, my first choice was Saif Ali Khan. After that I went to Aamir and Hrithik. The film went around in many places till it came to Ranbir. We tried to get Ranveer Singh too but we could raise only Rs 40-50 crores.

The director of ‘Gangs of Wasepur’ said that ‘Bombay Velvet’ was an expensive film from the beginning.
He said that it was a 300 crore (Indian) rupee film which we made for 90 crore rupees.
Later, Anurag Kashyap used to criticize Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan for rejecting the film, but he never gave any statement about Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan rejecting the film.
‘Bombay Velvet’ flopped badly at the box office, after which Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma had to bear the brunt of it for a long time. He himself used to make fun of the film’s failure, but Anurag never regretted the film and always defended it.
