22 Years Of Lagaan: Director Ashutosh Gowariker’s film ‘Lagaan’ was released on June 15, 2001. Today it has been 22 years since the release of the film. This film raised the flags of success at the box-office. Superstar Aamir Khan (Aamir KHan) was in the lead role in the film, but do you know before Aamir, this film was offered to Abhishek Bachchan, not once or twice but 12 times. But Abhishek refused to do this film every time. Not only Abhishek, this film was also offered to Shah Rukh Khan before Aamir, but he also refused to do this film.

Ashutosh’s statement

In the year 2001, Ashutosh while talking to Rediff told that Abhishek liked this film, but when he offered this film to Abhishek, his career was about to launch with JP Dutta’s Refugee. He said that in those circumstances his decision was right. If he had done Lagaan, it would have become his first film.

Why did Abhishek refuse

According to several media reports, Abhishek thought that he was not right for Lagaan and that is why he did not do the film. He had said- I was sure that I am not right for this film. I was still raw and young to do such an epic role. I knew it was going to be a huge hit, but I was not ready for that role.

He was asked if he had been offered Lagaan now, would he have done the film now? On this Abhishek said- “I am happy that Aamir did that film. He had created magic. Every film and role has its own destiny. Do you know how many actors were offered Godfather before Marlon Brando? Why are we talking about this?
