IFFI 54: Renowned Indian filmmaker, actor and writer Rishab Shetty received the special jury award for his path-breaking work in ‘Kantara’ at the prestigious 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The exciting atmosphere at the festival’s closing ceremony saw the debut of the first look trailer of Kantara Episode 1, the prequel to Kantara, which received huge applause from the enthralled audience.
Shetty expressed his great gratitude, saying, “I am very humbled by the warmth and honor bestowed upon me on such a prestigious platform.”
Sharing his filmmaking philosophy, Shetty stated, “I believe I should let my films express themselves; The less said, the greater the success.” His humility and dedication to the craft shines through as ‘Kantara’ continues to resonate with audiences.
Referring to the global expansion of Indian cinema, Shetty emphasized the following: “Indian Cinema has become truly global. This is a direct result of the outstanding content coming from India.”
Underlining the universal appeal of Kannada cinema, Shetty highlighted its ability to transcend linguistic barriers. She evaluated the intense response to ‘Kantara’ as proof of this inclusiveness.

The jury’s recognition of Shetty’s directorial expertise underlined his ability to convey universally resonant narratives that transcend cultural and social boundaries, while being rooted in indigenous culture. ‘Kantara’ deals with the ideological conflict between humanity and nature in an imaginary village and delivers a powerful message amidst the conflict between tradition and modernity.
The prestigious award given to Shetty includes the Silver Peacock Medal of Rs. 15 Lakhs and a certificate.
