WhatsApp users worldwide report critical technical issues, making thousands of people having difficulty sending connectivity issues and sending messages.
Over 50,000 reports were recorded on Friday afternoon, indicating a widespread disruption of popular messaging apps, according to down detectors at the outage monitoring service. While most complaints are centered around connection failures, some users also reported issues with message delivery.
As WhatsApp is experiencing technical issues, many users have used other platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) to report the confusion and discuss its impact.
Additionally, some reports suggest minor confusion over Facebook and Facebook Messenger, which were significantly less compared to WhatsApp’s suspension.
With nearly 3 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp has faced similar confusion in the past. The latest mass outage of meta-owned platforms occurred in December, affecting WhatsApp and Instagram.
The last major global outage in the 2021 meta has led to major services such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp being all gone offline for nearly six hours, causing significant disruption around the world.
Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently highlighted his focus on expanding messaging services, particularly in the US.
At this time, no official cause of the outage has been confirmed.
