New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner expressed optimism that his team’s recent success in Pakistan will strengthen his confidence ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh on Monday.

The Black Cap demonstrated a formidable form, securing a tri-domestic series victory over Pakistan and South Africa, then a 60-run victory over defending champion Pakistan in Karachi.

Looking back on their recent performances, Santner said, “It’s a good position to have. I think it’s obviously the lead-in we had in that Torinations series.

Despite their impressive track record, Santner highlighted the need for a strategic approach to Bangladesh, acknowledging the possibility that the team could challenge the first-class side.

He said, “They have someone who can attack with a bat, meaning Hridoy plays the final game and Jaker Ali already does a lot of good stuff. Certainly not downplay it.”

Santner also highlighted Bangladesh’s balanced team despite the absence of veteran all-rounder Shakib al-Hasan. He said, “Obviously we’ve seen how good Shakib is for a long time. He’s proven that he can play in all conditions. But they clearly have Richard in. (Mohammad) Mahmudula can also play.

Looking forward to the match at Rawalpindi, Santner highlighted the importance of building a partnership, especially considering the venue’s reputation for high-scoring games.

He said, “If it’s pretty flat, I think it’s probably similar to what we’ve run in Karachi. It’s been hitting that intense length for a long time. -up too .”
