Actress Kangana Ranaut has spoken out about her ER co-star Anupama Khera, saying she wouldn’t have done the film if he had refused to do it. Speaking to news agency ANI, Kangana also called Anupam Kher the ‘hero’ of the film. Kangana talks about the importance of having Anupam in an emergency situation

Kangana said, “It was very important for me to have Anupam Ji in this film. If he had refused to star in ER, I wouldn’t have been able to cope. Look at his on-screen personality… there is sincerity on his face. No one else can play Jayaprakash Narayan’s role.”

Anupam calls Kangana ‘one of the best directors’

Anupam also praised Kangana. “I was studying at the National School of Drama in New Delhi when the Emergency was declared. So I didn’t have to do much research for the film… besides, Kangana did the research on everyone’s behalf. This will be one of the best films made on any political topic. Kangana does the job effortlessly. She put so much work into making Emergency… Directing an entire film and playing the role of Indira Gandhi is not an easy job, but Kangana pulled it off…one of the best. directors I’ve worked with,” he said.

About an emergency

The film is based on the Emergency that was imposed in India for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath. In the film, Anupam will play the role of late politician Jayaprakash Narayan. Kangana will be seen as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Fans will see Shreyas Talpade as young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Choudhary as Pupul Jayakar and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.

The film will hit theaters on January 17. The Emergency is billed as the story of a turning point in India’s political history. ‘Emergency’ is produced by Renu Pittie and Kangana in association with Zee Studios. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Ritesh Shah and the music is composed by Sanchit Balhara.
